Do we have any COTY Candidate standouts so far?

There are a few notables for Div 1. Grove City having a good year, New Albany, Canal (I think he is new'ish?), Bradley's crazy transformation from last year to this. But - does Pick North's Coach win it just for being the only unbeaten team? I guess they could still lose to Jerome, but certainly they are blowing through everyone.

Hard not to give VanKannel the nod at PN. It's always tough to balance the performance of a team exceeding expectations vs a team who is expected to be at the top and meets that expectation.

Yes, PN probably wins it. I do like the idea of Bradley's coach winning, because she is a first year head coach and took over a team that was 3-11 or some such number and they have gone 10-3-1, beating Gahanna, and losing only to Jerome, Anthony Wayne, and Beavercreek -- all teams that were state-ranked at some point this season. PN has a great team. Bradley seems to certainly have a good team, but the difference in last year to this year - has to have something to do with the coaching. The talent didn't change over that much. I checked, there are only 2 freshman and there are 8 seniors - with most of them starters. They were there last year, too.
That said, Canal Winchester and Grove City coaches have done some really good things this year also. All exceeding expectations.

I've stayed out of posting any guesses because I wanted to see what the end of the season looked like - and there are a few games left, but from a team seed perspective, there are some teams that stand out as making themselves real competitors.
Pick North - decline to comment; obviously VK can get girls to play well for him. And he has the talent to do it.
Coffman's season has been fairly stellar. One loss, Pick North, 0-2. 3 ties: Liberty, Darby, and Marysville. The Marysville tie is the stain - but they beat Jerome and they beat Canal - which would have been their toughest games. The Coffman defense may be as good as the Pick North defense. Both teams have good GKs and a good strong back line. As Birdofprey would say, Defense wins championships and Coffman may just have the defensive might to win out.
Canal Winchester - I like this team. I seem to like AW - don't know him personally, but he has gotten some terrific results for being a 2nd year coach. Again, he does have some natural talent on that team. A great GK and some great defenders - they have given up 10 total goals. They beat Davidson on the road. They played Coffman 0-1 and Granville 1-2. They tied NA 0-0. This team has a good sophomore midfielder and several forwards capable of scoring. I think he has done a lot with this team.
Now, I don't want to be stuck mentioning only the coaches that were mentioned above - but I do keep coming back to one coach as well. Bradley's first year head coach, Alcox. I'm still not 100% sure about this team - they seem to have good wins and then tie Scioto and WC. But, their losses are to pretty good teams and they've managed to win against pretty good teams and they do have a lot of shut-outs. I think I just counted 8, but with 15 goals against. That's higher than some of the other higher ranked teams but I tried to break it down and 8/15 came from 2 games. I don't know if that's good or bad, but two 4-goal-against games will screw your stats a bit. I can't guess what happened in those games, if they were down players, or what - but it shows me that in 13 other games they only have 7 goals against. So, then I credit their defense a bit more. I think I keep coming back to this team due to the huge change in last year. I know someone posted they lost keepers last year and certainly that could affect some games, but 3-11 to 10-3? That is a turnaround that may be worth a COY award.
Certainly not to say that every single coach out there doesn't do things worthy of awards, so I tip my hat. These guys all get paid very little in comparison to the hours they put in and I am grateful there are people willing to do it for the players. If any coaches read this board, I'm humbled that you bother because I know you're busy, but thank you very much for all you do. Without you, I wouldn't have the opportunity to spend hours posting these game scores and my wife would make me do the laundry instead.

Wait, the Fairbanks boys or girls? Because I'm not convinced Fairbanks girls head coach should win coach of the year even if he ran unopposed.
