I don't participate in game score predictions, but I have been thinking about Seeding predictions for this weekend.
1. Coffman - this should not be in dispute; no losses to anyone in Central Ohio but 5 TIES. But, no losses, so that puts them first. Their only loss is to a state ranked Walsh Jesuit, and it was only 1-0. They have beaten 4 central ohio ranked teams and tied 3 others. I've seen them play twice this season. They are good and fast and the 5 teams that tied them should be in the top 10 in Central Ohio, so that's part of my analysis.
The rest of these are a muddled mess because I can make any argument for any one of these teams to be 2-5, but here goes:
2. Watterson - They have come on very very strong after the beginning of the season. Sure, they lost to Thomas, Marysville, and Olentangy - but they haven't lost since their 5th game of the season and they have been winning or tying good teams. I like the whopping 5-0 UA win and tying Orange, coffman and Pick North. They have worked hard enough to move up to 2 in my opinion.
3. Olentangy - Same analysis as above, they have done much better in the 2nd half of the season than the first and while they aren't blowing out anyone -- they are winning, even if only by 1. That's a win. They beat Watterson, Pick North, Darby, Upper Arlington, Worthington North, and tied Davidson. They have turned it around with 5 straight wins. I like it.
4. Pick North - loss to Olentangy drops them for me. Loss to Davidson 4-0 isn't good. BUT, still a team with decent wins -- beat Marysville 3-0, beat New Albany 3-0, beat Darby 6-2; ties with Watterson and Coffman.
5. Hilliard Bradley - couldn't decide between Bradley and Orange, but I chose bradley because they tied Coffman and Orange lost to Coffman. Bradley's losses are to: Beavercreek (1 in state), Anthony Wayne (2 in state) and a close loss to Jerome 1-0. Only loss to local team, but 4 ties: Coffman, Davidson, Liberty, and Orange. Decent teams.
6. Orange - This was tough, but Bradley and Orange tied and Orange lost to Coffman and Marysville - 2 losses to COhio teams. None of their wins are against ranked teams, but some good ties against Watterson, Canal, and New Albany
7. Westerville North - I'm sure I'm in the minority putting them 7 and not higher. BUT - they lost to Coffman 4-1 which is Coffmans second biggest win against a local ranked team (the other is a recent 7-0 win against Marysville). They also lost to Olentangy. Their wins aren't hugely impressive but they did beat Liberty and UA and tied Big Walnut. I don't think they have played the tougher schedules that the above 6 teams have played, and that's why they are 7 for me.
8. New Albany - big loss to pick north, but recent tie to Orange. They also tied a highly ranked Lakota West team earlier in the season and tied Jerome 4-4. Barely knocked off Westerville Central with a 3-2 win, but ultimately a team that should be in top 10. I believe they have some injuries that could be causing some issues.
9. Dublin Jerome - Losses to Beavercreek (#1 in state), Coffman (#9 in state), but also Darby and grove city make this team a conundrum. And a 3-0 loss to Coffman is a big deficit. Some good wins however against Liberty and Bradley so, I leave them in top 10.
10. Canal Winchester - another possible minority pick over Marysville, but after M'ville's 7-0 loss to Coffman, they can't make the top 10. Canal has tied Orange, Coffman, Liberty, and Big Walnut. Their losses are all 1 goal losses to Gahanna, Pick North, and DAvidson. Good enough teams to make them be the overlooked underdog of the tournament.
I'm happy to hear criticisms, but this year is just as muddled as this ranking. It isn't easy to separate these teams outside of Coffman -- and even Coffman had a hard time beating our central ohio teams. 5 ties! Crazy year!
