Jerome loses 1-2 to Liberty. Would love to hear about that game. Gahanna wins 1-0 over Westerville Central. Pick North over Olentangy 3-2. From what I heard, it wasn't as close as it looks. PN up 3-0 before Olentangy started a later second half come back. Bradley wins it 3-0 over Pick Central. Coffman over Scioto 3-0 Darby over Davidson 3-1
That's your central Ohio top 7 teams...what coaches poll changes will we see as a result? It's interesting... PN beats Davidson 3-2 and Davidson loses 3-1 to Darby and 4-1 to Bradley. PN seems a little more vulnerable than expected this season? Liberty beats Jerome 2-1; Coffman ties Liberty, Coffman beats Olentangy; Bradley beats Liberty 1-0...will we see a Bradley team defeat Jerome? Bradley took a bad loss to Beavercreek (1-4); Will Coffman give Jerome a good game as well?
Coffman and Darby may have an argument to feel under-rated at this point in the coaches poll. If anyone is paying attention - there could be a lot of changes in next week's poll.

I would just add Gahanna's turf is like blacktop and players on both sides struggle weighting balls. What could be dangerous thru-balls end up out of play. You end up with a bunch of goal kicks an throw-ins.

I think the top tier is much muddier than it was last year. I don't remember a time last year where it didn't feel like Gahanna, DJ, OL, and PN were the clear top 4. This year it all seems muddier. PN is on top til they lose but that looks like it could come soon. I'm having a hard time buying into Bradley hype. Good to see Coffman back in the mix (or bad if you are on their schedule).
The second tier of teams is even less clear. UA had a hot start but lost to DeSales. Grove City is quietly 5-1. Canal is dangerous and lurking around, if they can get everything to click. Have heard very little about any Westerville school but they have a lot of talented girls sprinkled around.
Should be a fun one.

Completely agree on top tier muddiness. Bradley's bad beat vs. Beavercreek makes it tough to get too excited about them - but they've had 4 other good wins. 3 of which were shut outs, and heard the one goal scored against them v. Davidson was actually an own goal. And they have a Freshman leading scorer! They've also played 3 different keepers, according to the box scores, which seems odd. "Pick North" seems ready to be "Picked Off" and the rest of their season is definitely not a walk in the park. I will be interested to see how they play against Beavercreek, myself. But the Coffman game might be the game to watch. Coffman has 2 sophomores that have seemed to score nearly every game.
UA's DeSales loss was interesting. They had two decisive wins and looked to be the team to watch for a few games, there. Grove City and Canal are definitely capable of stepping up and proving themselves. Westerville Central has been an oddity -- clearly playing Gahanna well at 0-1, but tying Thomas Worthington 0-0.
Ohiosoccer1, how much of a hit does Jerome take after the liberty loss, do you think? At least in the polls? Olentangy has had 2 losses (Coffman and PN), so I expect they will drop out of the top 10 - but how far does Jerome really go?

It'll be interesting to see. Olentangy would still be in my top 10, 1 goal losses to PN and Coffman are more impressive to me than a several goal win over a mediocre school. Jerome is still probably top 5. PN is on top, followed by who? Bradley's loss was to a good Beavercreek team, but 4-1 wasn't close. DJ, DC, Olentangy, OL all have blemishes. Gahanna is probably at #2 but I don't feel confident in that. Darby is up there.
Desales should probably leap over UA. New Albany probably breaks the top 10 as they're undefeated but no noteworthy opponents. Canal hasn't beat anybody noteworthy. Grove City, same.
I can't really come up with a solid 10 for now. PN on top, 2-8 in some order would be Jerome, Coffman, Bradley, Darby Olentangy, OL, Gahanna. Pick two of the tier 3 schools for 9 and 10. Whatever the results are, I don't think we will see wide vote margins, i.e. there won't be a lot of consistency across coaches rankings.

Gahanna scored twice off corner kicks within the first 7 minutes of the match. It seemed like Gahanna controlled the balance of the 1st half but Liberty picked up the tempo. Liberty was on the front foot the entire second half but could only find the net on a rocket from 30+ yards to the far post, upper 90, by Abby Jones. It was a blast Ronaldo would have been proud of. Liberty pressed for the equalizer but Gahanna's back line and keeper had none of it. I think it would be hard for most teams to spot Gahanna 2 goals and expect a result. Both teams should be battle hardened come mid October.

This will seem crazy but I think we would see better soccer if an assist counted for 2 points and a goal 1 in the stat book. So many promising goal scoring opportunities go by the board by the stat hungry goal seekers. The best part of the game is the final ball that leads to a goal. That's the ball that requires great skill and vision. I which as a sport we could see more of that. A general observation over the years is that when the goal seekers get that ball others stop their runs forward. That's a bad habit that misses clean up opportunities but I can see how that habit can develop.
Nothing better than a killer ball that sets up a finish. I'm also one who is saying pull the trigger under my breath when the opening is there so I do love the goal scorers.

And Darby only 1-0 over Scioto. Well, it goes along with the rest of this crazy season.

Reported in: Darby outplayed Olentangy, but Olentangy shut down one of Darby's better players. Jerome's keeper just back from a concussion...maybe too soon. Coffman's Rivard-Roberts had 2 amazing goals to cap a great game.

Are the box scores correct? Did Bexley tie Grandview?

Went and watched NA vs DeSales today. I don't want to throw shade and both teams gave great effort but... I was not that impressed with either team. DeSales looked slow and unathletic, lacking ideas in attacking third, and barely had any possession. Their attacking mid had some creativity but seemed easily frustrated, team was barking at each other, coach shown a yellow for arguing with ref. Maybe it was just an off day. CF was big and strong but lacked pace or ability to hold up play and they couldn't put much together. They did catch NA twice on counters but NA keeper was ready and made two big saves. Hard for me to see how they can compete with a PN or Gahanna. NA I thought looked so-so, I have to imagine this was just an "average" day for them. Strong up the middle but weak on flanks. Scored on a 40 yard rip from CDM and a tap-in by a winger. Their CF did a great job of holding up play and attracting attention, freeing up space for CMs. #19 was a very silky smooth player who made good decisions. But overall lots of inconsistent touches and looked susceptible on the counters.
Most disappointing were the NA fans... late in the game, NA twice had the ball in the goal mouth on the line and great effort from a DeSales defender to slide and keep it out of the net. The NA dads went crazy, yelling at the AR, when he made the right call of no goal. Personal attacks, calling him out of shape and lazy. No wonder there is a ref shortage. I wish I had said something to them but it probably would have just escalated.
Both teams have a lot of potential but also lots of room for improvement IMO.
