On initial review, I'd say North had a very good draw. Coffman and Jerome have some work to do to win their districts. Gahanna is probably feeling good about their district.

Re: Gahanna - UA/NA and Darby aren't walks in the park, but I expected the Gahanna bracket to be the one teams piled on. Looks like the Coffman bracket is maybe the toughest. Liberty went right after Bradley! I guess they think they won't lose a 2nd time. Surprised Bradley went to the Coffman bracket over the Gahanna bracket. Jerome/Olentangy game might be a good one? Depends on who comes to play - Olentangy has some strong players, but need more scorers. Pick North v. Canal/Davidson might at least be a game. Davidson played PN 3-2 earlier this year, Canal beat Davidson 1-0.
All in all, I think this is a good bracket that might have some upsets -
Can't wait to watch some games.

I agree UA/NA or Darby are not walks in the park. I’m surprised one of the Olentangy teams didn’t take the NA line. It would have been available. Bradley passed on a Gahanna rematch too. I’m not surprised with that. The NA line would have been available to Grove City too and they did take it. The anticipated pile on didn’t happen against Gahanna. I thought Gahanna would be the target for higher seeded teams than NA. It would be really fun to know why certain decisions were made. All we can do is speculate.

I think it is time for coaches to be held accountable for their awful voting practices, both when it comes to seeding and all-district nominations. Asinine stat tracking, running up scores against piss-poor teams to brag about it, intentionally playing poor schedules to boost your W/L/D record... all of these things seem to be done by the same coaches who year in and year out fail to grow their program or actually see any consistent success beyond stacking up wins against poor competition. Just have a look at the seeding, particularly for D2 and D3, on both the girls and boys side.

On bracket day coaches are given a sheet that shows how every coach voted for seeding purposes. I've never seen it shared publicly, not sure if there is maybe a rule against that.

Without sharing specifics, do you think that there are many coaches who voted improperly? Or, maybe, just uninformed is a better word?

I agree UA/NA or Darby are not walks in the park. I’m surprised one of the Olentangy teams didn’t take the NA line. It would have been available. Bradley passed on a Gahanna rematch too. I’m not surprised with that. The NA line would have been available to Grove City too and they did take it. The anticipated pile on didn’t happen against Gahanna. I thought Gahanna would be the target for higher seeded teams than NA. It would be really fun to know why certain decisions were made. All we can do is speculate. I have never been a high school coach, so yep - I can only speculate. But if I am Davidson, I can see going into the PN Bracket. They played them well, and PN may underestimate them, and they figured since it was the PN bracket - no one is going to follow that's too difficult...and sure, Canal planted themselves there, but they played Canal 0-1 and probably feel like they can do better...OK, maybe I can see that, assuming they can beat Westerville Central who chose them head to head. Canal going into that bracket - well, they played a tough scrimmage vs Gahanna before season (0-2 loss) and may feel that they have improved a lot. Only 10 goals against all season. Gahanna tied PN. And then there's DeSales, probably the team who should be the most upset with their seeding. They just played PN 0-1 the other night. I am sure they have broken down that game and feel completely ready to prove to the world that they can play with and beat PN. But Grove City - they had other options, and I am as surprised as Birdofprey that they didn't take the Gahanna line that NA took. GC v DeSales for the first game will not be easy. I expect District Finals in that bracket to be PN v DeSales. Jerome bracket: The oddity is that Olentangy went to Jerome over Gahanna and now they have to play Westerville North in a semi - and they tied them earlier this year. It would have been an easier path for them in the Gahanna bracket. But MARYSVILLE! Good for you, girls. Go get 'em. Delaware v. Marysville could be a good game, but with Delaware tying Jerome last week - I'm sure both teams are looking for an upset. Jerome tied a very young, albeit still good, Lebanon team this week and that's 2 ties in a row, I think? They must be feeling some level of exhaustion lately - I maybe even some injuries we don't know about. Probably Jerome v. Olentangy at the end. Coffman bracket: Orange could have avoided. Bradley could have avoided. Liberty could have avoided. This is a Coffman team with only 1 loss - and very few goals against. Somebody knows something I don't, is my guess. Coffman v. Orange and Bradley v. Liberty in the District Semis are tough games. I can't even guess the final two yet. Bradley beat Liberty 1-0 at home this year, but this will also be a home game for them. Liberty has since beaten Jerome and tied Centerville and lost to Orange. Orange took out both Olentangy rivals and they went straight for Coffman. Let's call that our upset since I feel like I'm missing out on info that others may have...and play Orange v. Bradley only because Bradley is home and beat Liberty earlier. Gahanna bracket: Darby should take care of Westland easily and then faced with the winner of New Albany/Upper Arlington. That may be the 2nd game of the tournament to see. UA is a far better team than their record - they just struggle with the scoring aspect, but they can and do control the middle, stay organized, and possess. But NA can score, and they have a good GK. I'm tempted to take NA on this one, but Chris Merrick is a good coach and he may figure out a way for the Bears to step up and win this one. Darby must have been very excited to see Gahanna still open and it probably wasn't much of a thought to take them on after Bradley and Olentangy passed it up. Darby is a very physical team with some skill blended in. They have had a pretty good season with very close losses to Jerome, Liberty, and Olentangy with a 0-0 tie v. Coffman. They are also a team with a little bit of bravado - and I am sure the thought that if Bradley can beat Gahanna, they can beat Gahanna. Ultimately, I have to say that Gahanna has the far better defense. I think GL wins this one and maybe even 2-0. There's my speculation.

That and a quarter....
But thanks - I have been learning a lot about these players the last few seasons and it's fun to watch them improve and become team and field leaders.
